Ornamental Features:

‘Milky Way’ is an herbaceous tropical perennial with a compact growth habit that produces multiple stems that grow to a maximum height of 3 feet.  The foliage is light to medium green. ‘Milky Way’ produces multiple basal blooms of white cones sometimes with a slight pink shading.  Cones are occasionally produced on stem terminals also.  Naturally goes dormant in Winter.

 

Habit and Growth Rate:

This plant is well suited to medium shade to full sun landscapes in warm climates. It also works well as a tropical foliage plant or patio plant.

 

Pot Size and Finish Time:

Best suited for an 8” pot size and will finish in about 5 months.

 

Culture:

Light:  50% shade to full sun

Temperature:  55° - 95° F

Soil / Watering:  Use a well draining professional mix that is slightly acidic, keep evenly moist. During dormancy, keep rhizomes dry and free from freezing.

Fertilizer:  Liquid feed with complete fertilizer at 200-250 ppm (N), weekly. Supplement with magnesium sulfate at 1/4 pound per 100 gallons once per month. For top dress or soil incorporation, follow label rates.

 

Pest/Disease Problems:

Employ good sanitation practices to avoid fungal and bacterial pathogens. A preventative drench with a soil fungicide such as Banrot will help to prevent root rot.
