Ornamental Features:

Midnight Ginger’ is a herbaceous tropical perennial with glossy dark brown to nearly black foliage.  It has a compact growth habit that produces multiple stems that grow to a maximum height of 30 inches.  It blooms with a sulfur yellow basal inflorescence that fades to a pale pink.

 

Applications:

This plant is well suited to shady landscapes in warm climates. It also works well as a tropical foliage plant or patio plant.  Midnight Ginger’ is an excellent companion plant when paired with light colored or silver leafed plants.

 

Pot Size and Finish Time:

Best suited for a 3 gallon pot size and will finish in 5 to 6 months. Plant one plant per pot.

Light:  75% shade

Temperature:  55° - 95° F

Soil / Watering:  Use a well draining professional mix, keep evenly moist. 

Fertilizer:  Liquid feed with complete fertilizer at 200-250 ppm (N). For top dress or soil incorporation, follow label rates for medium feeders.

 

Pest/Disease Problems:

Employ good sanitation practices to avoid fungal and bacterial pathogens. A preventative drench with a soil fungicide will help to prevent root rot.
