Ornamental Features:

Spathoglottis are tropical terrestrial orchids that have narrow pleated leaves and produce colorful long lasting blooms on tall flower spikes. ‘Lavender Ground Orchid’ produces numerous pale lavender blooms, and will reach a finished height of about 3 feet.

 

Applications:

These plants are well suited for partially shaded landscapes in warm climates to provide a tropical look.  They can also be used as a summer patio plant in cooler areas.

 

Pot Size and Finish Time:

Best suited for an 8” pot size and will finish in about 6 months.

 

Culture:

Light:  30 - 70% shade

Temperature:  Prefers Daytime above 75°, and nighttime cooler but above 60° F

Soil / Watering:  Use a well draining professional bark mix; keep evenly moist but not damp. Plants will tolerate some drying.

Fertilizer:  Liquid feed with complete fertilizer at 200-200 ppm (N), weekly. Supplement with magnesium sulfate at 1/4 pound per 100 gallons once per month. For top dress or soil incorporation, follow label rates.

 

Pest/Disease Problems:

Employ good sanitation practices to avoid fungal and bacterial pathogens. A preventative drench with a soil fungicide such as Banrot will help to prevent root rot.
