Ornamental Features:

‘Raven’ is an improved selection of Kaempferia rotunda that has darker and more prominent leaf markings.  The lanceolate leaves have silver and black feather patterns on the upper surface and maroon undersides.  ‘Raven’ is an upright plant that grows to 24 inches high.

 

Habit and Growth Rate:

This plant makes an excellent ground cover for shaded landscapes or as an interior or patio pot plant.

 

Pot Size and Finish Time:

Best suited for an 8” pot size and will finish in about 3 months.

 

Culture:

Light:  75-80% shade

Temperature:  55° - 95° F

Soil / Watering:  Use a slightly acidic, well draining professional mix, keep evenly moist.  During dormancy, keep rhizomes dry and protect from freezing.

Fertilizer:  Liquid feed with complete fertilizer at 200-250 ppm (N), weekly. Supplement with magnesium sulfate at 1/4 pound per 100 gallons once per month. For top dress or soil incorporation, follow label rates.

 

Pest/Disease Problems:

Employ good sanitation practices to avoid fungal and bacterial pathogens. A preventative drench with a soil fungicide such as Banrot will help to prevent root rot.
