Ornamental Features:

‘Bronze Peacock’ is a low growing herbaceous perennial ginger originating from Southeast Asia.  The Kaempferias are also known as Peacock Gingers because of their patterned foliage. This variety has bronze patterned foliage and lavender flowers. It will reach a height of about 12”.

 

Habit and Growth Rate:

This plant makes an excellent ground cover for shaded landscapes or as a patio pot plant.

 

Pot Size and Finish Time:

Best suited for an 8” pot size and will finish in about 3 months.

 

Culture:

Light:  80-85% shade

Temperature:  65° - 95° F

Soil / Watering:  Use a slightly acidic, well draining professional mix, keep evenly moist.  During dormancy, keep rhizomes dry and protect from freezing.

Fertilizer:  Liquid feed with complete fertilizer at 200-250 ppm (N), weekly. Supplement with magnesium sulfate at 1/4 pound per 100 gallons once per month. For top dress or soil incorporation, follow label rates.

 

Pest/Disease Problems:

Employ good sanitation practices to avoid fungal and bacterial pathogens. A preventative drench with a soil fungicide such as Banrot will help to prevent root rot.
