Ornamental Features:

‘Emerald Gem’ is a popular foliage variety because of its’ compact growth and symmetrical appearance.  The semi-heart shaped leaves are tough, textured, rich midnight green and shine as if waxed. The leaf size varies with maturity, but when finished in a 6” pot, the diameter will be about 4 inches.

 

Applications:

This plant is an excellent tropical foliage variety and is well suited to indoor low light growing conditions.  It is a very durable plant that can also be grown outdoors in warm climates or as a patio pot plant.

 

Pot Size and Finish Time:

Best suited for 6, 8 and 10 inch pot sizes and will finish in about 6 months in a 6 inch pot. Plant one liner per pot.

 

 

Culture:

Light:  75-80% shade

Temperature:  55° - 95° F

Soil / Watering:  Use a well draining professional mix that is slightly acidic.

Fertilizer:  Liquid feed with complete fertilizer at 200-250 ppm (N). For top dress or soil incorporation, follow label rates for medium feeders.

 

Pest/Disease Problems:

Preventative spray for insect pests. Employ good sanitation practices to avoid fungal and bacterial pathogens. A preventative drench with a soil fungicide will help to prevent root rot.
