Ornamental Features:

Jungle Gold’ has velvety dark green foliage with silver markings. The undersides of the leaves are a deep maroon. It blooms throughout the growing season with bright gold and red flowers. Cornukaempferia naturally go dormant from November to March.

 

Applications:

This plant is excellent as a specimen plant for shaded landscapes or as a patio pot plant. It is a good substitute for Hosta in the Deep South.

 

Pot Size and Finish Time:

‘Jungle Gold’ can be planted in 1 to 3 gallon pots. Finish times range from 10 to 14 weeks. Plant one plant per pot.

 

Culture:

Light:  75 to 85% shade

Temperature:  65° - 95° F

Soil / Watering:  Use a slightly acidic, well draining professional mix, keep evenly moist.

Fertilizer:  Liquid feed with complete fertilizer at 200-250 ppm (N). For top dress or soil incorporation, follow label rates for medium feeders.

Dormant Care:  For pot plants keep dry and protect from freezing. In outdoor applications mulch well and avoid areas with poor drainage.

 

Pest/Disease Problems:

Employ good sanitation practices to avoid fungal and bacterial pathogens. A preventative drench with a soil fungicide will help to prevent root rot.
