Ornamental Features:
Bletilla
ochracea is a deciduous, terrestrial
orchid. The pleated, linear leaves are formed
from the many pseudo bulbs. The flowers are bright yellow with multiple flowers
on the inflorescence. Flowering lasts
for many weeks.
Habit and Growth Rate:
Forms an upright, arching clump that grows from 1 to 2
feet in height. Can be used in containers
or beds. Flowers can be cut for
arrangements.
Pot Size and Finish Time:
Best
suited for a 6” pot size and will finish in about 4 months.

Light: 50% shade to full sun
Temperature: -15° to 90° F
Soil
/ Watering:
Use a well draining professional mix that is
slightly acidic, keep evenly moist. Bletillas do not
like to go dry!
Fertilizer: Liquid feed with complete fertilizer at 200-250 ppm
(N), weekly. Supplement with magnesium sulfate at 1/4 pound per 100 gallons once
per month. For top dress or soil incorporation, follow label rates.
Pest/Disease Problems:
Employ good sanitation practices to avoid fungal
and bacterial pathogens. A preventative drench with a soil fungicide such as
Banrot will help to prevent root rot.
