Ornamental Features:

‘Albostriata’ is a rare, white-edged form of Bletilla striata.  The leaves are long and narrow with a thin white margin. The flowers are bright purple with multiple flowers on the inflorescence.  Flowers emerge in spring and last for many weeks.

 

Habit and Growth Rate:

Forms an upright, arching clump that grows to 15” in height.  Can be used in containers or beds.  Flowers can be cut for arrangements.

 

Pot Size and Finish Time:

Best suited for a 6” pot size and will finish in about 4 months.

 

Culture:

Light:  50% shade to full sun

Temperature:  -15° to 90° F

Soil / Watering:  Use a well draining professional mix that is slightly acidic, keep evenly moist. Bletillas do not like to go dry!

Fertilizer:  Liquid feed with complete fertilizer at 200-250 ppm (N), weekly. Supplement with magnesium sulfate at 1/4 pound per 100 gallons once per month. For top dress or soil incorporation, follow label rates.

 

Pest/Disease Problems:

Employ good sanitation practices to avoid fungal and bacterial pathogens. A preventative drench with a soil fungicide such as Banrot will help to prevent root rot.
