Ornamental Features:

‘Spice Ginger’ has a thick bushy growth habit. The narrow dark green leaves emit a pleasant spicy fragrance when brushed.  The rhizomes of this plant are commonly used in Asian cooking. The blooms are cream colored flowers with red stripes. It grows 3 to 5 feet tall in part shade to full sun.

 

Applications:

An excellent landscape plant for warm climates to provide a tropical look.  It can also be used as a patio pot plant. The spicy fragrance of the foliage is an unusual characteristic.

 

Pot Size and Finish Time:

Best suited for a 3 gallon pot and will finish in 5 to 6 months. Plant one liner per pot.

 

Culture:

Light:  30% shade to full sun

Temperature:  65° - 95° F

Soil / Watering:  Use a well draining professional mix, keep evenly moist.

Fertilizer:  Liquid feed with complete fertilizer at 200-250 ppm (N). For top dress or soil incorporation, follow label rates for medium feeders.

 

Pest/Disease Problems:

Preventative spray for insect pests. Employ good sanitation practices to avoid fungal and bacterial pathogens. A preventative drench with a soil fungicide will help to prevent root rot.
